The power of “yes” lives within you.  There is a whole lot of no going around right now.

No going to work.

No going to the gym.

No hanging out with people in groups.

No, no, and no.  I feel like a kid being scolded by my parents for not doing anything wrong.

It is time to insert some “yes, and” into the conversation.

From Wikipedia:

“Yes, and…”, also referred to as “Yes, and…” thinking is a rule-of-thumb in improvisational comedy that suggests that a participant should accept what another participant has stated (“yes”) and then expand on that line of thinking (“and”).[1][2] It is also used in business and other organizations as a principle that improves the effectiveness of the brainstorming process, fosters effective communication, and encourages the free sharing of ideas.”

Yes (accept), and (find a solution).

I cannot go to work, YES and it is the perfect opportunity to prove to my company how productive I am when working from home.

I cannot go to the gym, YES and I now have the chance to prove to myself how committed to my health and fitness I am.

I cannot hang out with the people I enjoy, YES and I can now figure out BETTER ways to connect with them on other levels.

Use the power of “Yes and” to force yourself into thinking of positive resolutions and outcomes to all of the negativity permeating the environment.  You have the power you simply have to use it.
