Step two of the KonMarie Method is to sort by category, not by location.

Marie has you separate items into 5 categories:

  1. Clothing
  2. Books
  3. Papers
  4. Komono (miscellaneous items)
  5. Mementos (items with sentimental value)

Start with the easiest category and work towards the most difficult.

When applying step two to your life there are also categories.

Career
Health
Wealth
Friends
Family
Faith

Sort by category not by location.  In other words, don’t use “when in Rome” to rationalize your behavior in specific situations when it doesn’t align with who you want to be.

Tidy up each area of your life across your entire life by category, not by location to ensure you are living your best life.

Starting with the easiest category first helps you build momentum and learn before attacking the more difficult categories.

Take a look at each area of your life and get to work tidying them up category by category across your entire life and in all situations.
